Who Can Benefit From Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is a good option for anyone who feels stressed about visiting the dentist. Whether you feel stressed about visiting the dentist because you have a past with bad dental experiences, a strong gag reflex, difficulty getting numb, or difficulty sitting still or for long periods of time, sedation dentistry can help!

We also recommend sedation dentistry to patients who have extra sensitive teeth or patients who need multiple treatments done and would like to get them all done at once. Sedation dentistry can make anyone’s dental experience much more pleasant and relaxing if it’s usually stressful. Nearly anyone can benefit from sedation dentistry. Stop making excuses to get out of your next dental visit and try sedation dentistry instead. We guarantee it will improve your experience.

How Sedation Dentistry Helps You Stay Relaxed

At Country Club Dentistry, we offer three types of sedation dentistry at our Rancho Mirage dental office. Each type offers a different amount of sedation but helps patients relax nonetheless. Learn about each option to figure out which option might be best for you.

Oral Conscious Sedation

One type of sedation option we have available at our Rancho Mirage dental office is oral conscious sedation. This type of sedation dentistry involves taking a pill before your appointment. You will need to arrange for a ride to your procedure because the sedative effects will make you unable to drive. Once you arrive for your appointment, the pill will start taking effect. After you sit in the dental chair, you might feel sleepy but very relaxed. You might even drift off to sleep. Before you know it, your procedure will be over and you will be ready for someone to drive you home.

Oral conscious sedation is a good option for patients with moderate to severe anxiety. The only limitation of the treatment is that the effects can possibly run out before your procedure is over. In this case, we won’t be able to give you more sedation because the pill takes a while to take effect.

IV Sedation

The last type of sedation dentistry we offer is IV sedation. IV sedation is a sedative that’s administered intravenously directly into the bloodstream. IV sedation takes effect almost immediately and puts you in a deeper state of sedation than inhaled sedation or oral conscious sedation. We highly recommend IV sedation for patients with severe anxiety or patients who need a long or invasive treatment. Since it’s administered intravenously, we can give you more as needed throughout your treatment. The only downside to this option is that it will require someone to drive you home since the effects likely won’t wear off in time for you to safely drive.

How Sedation Dentistry Will Change Your Life

If you cancelled your last dental appointment due to anxiety or feeling uncomfortable at the dentist, we challenge you to schedule an appointment with us and use sedation dentistry. With a combination of our friendly and caring staff and sedation dentistry, you will have a very relaxing dental treatment experience.

Once you experience a visit to the dentist with help from sedation dentistry, you will soon realize that visiting the dentist really isn’t that bad. We will help you get all the dental treatments you need to restore your teeth and gums back to complete health. Then we can use cosmetic dentistry to give you a smile you love.

Using sedation dentistry will change your life because it will help you stop putting dental treatments on the backburner. The sooner you receive the treatments you need, the less damage that will occur to your teeth and your gums. Sedation dentistry will improve your oral health and your overall health and even help you achieve a better smile.
