What is Laser Dentistry?

Dental lasers use Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) to create a narrow beam of light energy. When the beam comes into contact with the tissue, it makes precise cuts.

To maximize his capability as your dentist, Dr. Strober uses an all-tissue laser known as the BIOLASE Waterlase Express. BIOLASE is the world’s leading innovator in laser dentistry. The BIOLASE Waterlase is an award-winning system that works as a gentle and safe alternative to traditional dental tools. It creates a unique effect by coupling water spray with energy. The water keeps the tissue hydrated while also neutralizing sensation from the heat of the laser energy.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Laser dentistry offers a wide range of benefits not found with traditional dental tool use. When Dr. Strober uses the dental laser during your procedures, you can expect to experience the following benefits.

  • Limited Need for Sutures – If Dr. Strober needs to make an incision, there’s less need for sutures because the dental laser uses heat, which closes the incision.
  • Reduced Bacterial Infection Risk – The heat naturally sterilizes everything it comes into contact with, reducing any risk of infection.
  • Fast Healing – Incisions made with a dental laser heal much quicker due to its ability to close the incision.
  • Quiet – The laser is incredibly quiet – making it perfect for patients who suffer from dental anxiety.
  • Ultimate Precision for Better Results– The narrow-focused laser beam makes it easy for Dr. Strober to make the most precise cuts every time. As a result, patients can expect even better results from their procedure.

How We Use A Laser

At Country Club Dentistry, Dr. Strober uses the dental laser every chance he gets so that his patients can enjoy the many benefits that come with its use. As a hard and soft tissue laser, he can use this in various areas of your mouth, including the gums and teeth. With its versatility, Dr. Strober can use it for a wide range of procedures such as the ones listed below.

Small Restorations

The BIOLASE Waterlase all-tissue laser is the perfect replacement of the dental drill for minimally invasive restorations. Instead of experiencing the loud noise of the drill for every filling, the laser quietly removes tooth decay without removing healthy tooth structure in the process. The laser can also aid Dr. Strober with preparing teeth for dental crowns, veneers, and inlays and onlays.

Reduce Gum Inflammation

One of the first symptoms of gum disease is inflammation. With early treatment, patients can prevent bone and tooth loss from occurring. With help from the BIOLASE Waterlase laser, Dr. Strober can reduce gum inflammation by removing the inflamed tissue surrounding the tooth root. After removing the inflamed tissue, he will begin scraping off the plaque and calculus built up below the gum line and surrounding the root. Then, he smoothes out the root to remove rough areas that might attract bacteria.

Periodontal Surgery

If reducing gum inflammation wasn’t effective enough, Dr. Strober will perform periodontal surgery. Periodontal surgery involves cleaning out tartar from deep pockets and then removing pockets of space between the bone and teeth that were initially destroyed by periodontal disease. By removing these pockets, it eliminates room for plaque, tartar, and bacteria to fester.

Gum Contouring

If you have an uneven gum line or a smile that looks gummy, Dr. Strober can use the dental laser to reshape your gum line carefully. Gum contouring can help your teeth look more symmetrical, straighter, and longer.

Adult Frenectomy

The lingual frenum connects your tongue to the floor of your mouth while a labial frenum connects your upper front teeth gum area to the top lips. If either of these two frenums is too short, they can pose several problems. The lingual frenum can prevent someone from being able to touch the roof of their mouth with their tongue and cause speech problems. In contrast, the labial frenum can interrupt dental development, increase the risk of gum disease, cause other dental complications, and also speech problems. Although physicians usually identify these symptoms during adolescence, some grow into adulthood without receiving treatment.

If you’re an adult and your lingual or labial frenum is too short, Dr. Strober can easily release the frenum making a small cut with the dental laser. This procedure is known as a frenectomy. After the procedure, you can achieve full lip or tongue mobility which will improve related symptoms. The dental laser makes the procedure fast, comfortable, and easy. Not to mention, there’s essentially no downtime for recovery. If you’re unable to move your tongue or upper lip in a full range of motion, please ask Dr. Strober to examine your mouth. You might be a good candidate for an adult frenectomy.
