Dental implants are the most durable and effective tooth replacement method available. By supporting your replacement teeth with an artificial root that is fused to your jawbone, dental implants make your smile strong and fully-functional again.
A dental implant is made up of three main components:
- The titanium root – A threaded cylinder that replaces your natural tooth root at the site of your missing tooth.
- The abutment – A small metal piece that serves as an extension of the root and supports your replacement tooth.
- A dental crown – Dr. Strober will create a custom-made dental crown that matches the color of your surrounding teeth. This is the only part of the dental implant that will be visible in the end.
In order to successfully place dental implants, the titanium root must be surgically inserted into your jawbone and allowed to fuse during a process called osseointegration. This fusion process can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to complete. Once the root is anchored into place, your new dental crown can be placed.
Dental implants have no expiration date. With proper care, they can last a lifetime, restoring your smile and protecting the rest of your teeth for decades to come.
