What Are SureSmile® Aligners?
SureSmile® combines state-of-the-art manufacturing with superior planning to provide patients with a new clear aligner orthodontic treatment. SureSmile® uses special imaging software to design each precise movement of your teeth during treatment.
SureSmile® uses the same basic principles as traditional braces and other orthodontic approaches. Our bones might seem set, but they’re being remade constantly. Pressure can guide this process. With orthodontics, we put pressure on your teeth, making your body remove bone from one side of the tooth and build it up on the other, letting your tooth move.
SureSmile® applies this pressure with clear plastic aligners instead of metal brackets and wires, which is why people call them clear braces. We use our iTero digital scanner during your exam to create a 3D model of your teeth. The advanced computer software analyzes the model, predicts what tooth movements need to happen, and breaks those movements down into a series of steps. Each step becomes an aligner. The software even allows Dr. Strober to create different treatment scenarios and adjustments to optimize each smile design. Dr. Strober creates a fully customized treatment plan for each patient.
Putting on the aligner presses on your teeth until they move into the desired position. Then, you put on the next aligner. When you finish the series of aligners, you’re done. You must wear a retainer to ensure your teeth don’t drift back out of place. Intermittent retainer wear helps you maintain your straight teeth for life.

Comparing SureSmile® to Invisalign®
Invisalign is the brand of clear braces that most people know. That’s why they ask for Invisalign. However, there are several reasons why people might want to choose SureSmile®over Invisalign, including:
- Lower cost
- Manual review of cases
- Comfortable edges
- VPro vibration assistance
Invisalign is a recognized brand, charging a premium for their cases. With SureSmile®, we can offer you treatment that is arguably better for a lower cost. They offer pricing flexibility, too, so we can work out the best plan for your treatment. SureSmile® also qualifies for dental insurance covering orthodontics and dental financing to help fit into your budget.
Invisalign’s case planning is automated with a computer doing the planning. A dentist can intervene if they choose, modifying their case. However, SureSmile®cases are continually reviewed by their in-house clinical specialists, who might recommend changes to the case if necessary. According to their data, this may be why they are 50% more accurate than Invisalign.
Although clear braces are usually more comfortable than traditional wire braces, the edges can be sharp and uncomfortable. With SureSmile®, the material is smoother on the edges and more comfortable.
SureSmile® offers an option of VPro vibration assistance for your orthodontic treatment. You just use the VPro for about five minutes daily, which helps your teeth move more quickly and accurately than aligners alone.
Who’s a Good Candidate for SureSmile®?
SureSmile® can address most orthodontic cases. Patients who experience any of the following issues are likely good candidates. SureSmile® can address:

- Overbites
- Underbites
